The professional association of butchers in the LVH carried out the first bacon comparison test in South Tyrol together with the TIS Innovation Park. The best bacon was selected under strict criteria and the winners were recently awarded at a press conference.

The importance of South Tyrolean bacon

South Tyrolean bacon is not only one of the most important traditional but also most popular foods in South Tyrol. Every year around 30,000 tons, i.e. 6.5 million hammen, are produced using traditional craftsmanship. The idea for the bacon comparison test came about to determine the quality of the different bacon producers and to raise consumer awareness of quality products.

Competition and winners at a glance

The bacon comparison test was carried out by a jury of experts under the strict tasting criteria of the German Agricultural Society (DLG). The Pfattner Johann butcher shop received the gold medal, while 11 butcher shops won silver and 13 butcher shops won bronze. The competition emphasized the importance of quality from South Tyrolean bacon producers.
